18th Annual Alcatraz Invitational
The Board of Directors encourages ALL South Enders to take the SERC Census, part of the project to create a history of our club.
As the club comes up on 140 years, it has become very clear that we are busting at the seams especially when it comes to locker room space. Women membership is up to 264 and there are only 114 lockers in the current women's locker room. There are 665 men and 311 men's lockers. All of this led us to the conclusion that it is time to look at expanding the club to accommodate what will hopefully be another 140 years of enjoying the bay...
The $150 Swim Fee includes:
- A swim cap
- Distinctive finisher medal
- Swimmer's tote bag
- Brunch
- Individual chip time for the swim
This year we are focusing our attention on ensuring a fun and safe event for all participants and for the planet. We are striving to reduce our impact on the earth, environment and bay. Here are a few minor improvements we have made to the event for 2013:
Swim shirts have been replaced with Swimmer tote bags - plan to use your tote bag to store your personal effects while swimming the Alcatraz Invitational, then proudly reuse it for years to come at the store, beach, Aquatic Park or gym. T-shirts will also be available for purchase for an additional fee when you register and on the day of the event.
This year the South End Volunteers will be out in force to assist you and answer questions. They will be plentiful and easy to find in the crowd as they will be wearing red South End t-shirts with VOLUNTEER written across the back.

- A limited number of "same-day of registration" spots will be taken on a first come first serve basis. Please first try our waitlist option on our registration page.
- Credit cards will be accepted for merchandise and day of event purchases.
- Day of event swim fee is now $175.
- Brunch ticket for friends and family of swimmers are $15.
- Extra T-shirts $20 online, $25 at the event.
- We will give out 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons in each age group division.
- Twitter post updates will be provided during the event.
