2013 Mojave Max Emergence Contest
The real life Mojave Max lives in Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas, NV. Every fall the hot Las Vegas weather cools off, and Max goes into his burrow to begin brumation.
When will he emerge? That is the question all of our contestants need to answer. The person who guesses as closely as possible to the correct day, hour, and minute when Max emerges from his burrow wins! Anyone in the whole world can enter, but only one lucky winner from Clark County, Nevada (or other sponsored areas) can win all kinds of great prizes!
I am Mojave Max, and I have been very busy since I became the Spokestortoise for the Clark County Desert Conservation Program in 1995. I have been telling people about native species, what they can do to protect their local environments, and how to safely enjoy nature!
I've been hosting the annual
Mojave Max Emergence Contest since 2000, and have become a weather prognosticator (predictor) for the west coast. Although Clark County named me and gave me my "shell," other communities have adopted me; now you can participate in the contest in many areas of California, Nevada, and Utah!
