4th Friday is a downtown tradition

4th Friday is a true celebration of the arts and downtown. Folks of all ages get a taste of Fayetteville's art and entertainment while enjoying the small galleries, bookstores, bistros and shops with unique items for shoppers. It's safe, it's fun ... and it's free!

Exhibits, entertainment, refreshments and featured artists all combine to bring the art of Fayetteville to everyone - free of charge! Businesses in the four and a half block of historic downtown Fayetteville join the action and become artistic venues on 4th Friday, featuring the arts in all forms, for all ages.

Families love it. Seniors love it. Teens love it. Arts supporters love it. And once you've been to a 4th Friday, you'll love it too. So what are you waiting for? Join us on 4th Friday!

Places to visit during 4th Fridays:

There is plenty to see and do every 4th Friday in downtown Fayetteville! Check out these locations for art and culture-related activities:

  • Arts Council, 301 Hay St.: Visual art exhibitions from 7 to 9 p.m.
  • Cape Fear Studios, 148 Maxwell St.: Visual art exhibitions from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Cumberland County Headquarters Library, 300 Maiden Lane: Programming from 7 to 9 p.m. Refreshments.
  • Fascinate-U Children's Museum, 116 Green St.: Admission is free. Children are invited to explore their creativity by making crafts from 7 to 9 p.m.

Fayetteville Area Transportation Museum, 325 Franklin St.: See artifact-filled exhibits, including a model train room, that tell the story of transportation from pre-history through the early 20th century. The Transportation Museum also hosts the City Market with crafts and local produce for sale.

  • Gallery One13, 113 Gillespie St.: Exhibit openings from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Market House: Featuring an educational exhibit upstairs from 6 to 10 p.m.

Be sure to catch John Malzone's Cotton Exchange Express, weather permitting. The free train ride departs from the Cotton Exchange at 226 Donaldson St.
