8th Annual ILLUMINATED GARDEN
Enjoy an evening walk in the quarry meadow of Ballard Park when it is transformed into a magnificent blooming winter garden of lights. Thousands of lights will sparkle in a series of unique displays again this year.
Additionally there will be exhibits by students enrolled at St. Michael's Country Day School, Cluny School, the Newport Community Opportunity Zone and the Boys & Girls Club of Newport County.
The Illuminated Garden is a free event and open to the public from 6 to 9 pm each night. It will be held, weather permitting (check our web site for weather advisories) on Thursday, 2/21, Friday 2/22 and Saturday 2/23. The event may be accessed through the Hazard Road entrance.
The free event features thousands of lights displayed on the trees and unique features of the park's three acre quarry meadow. Candle lit luminaries will line the trail into the quarry which is accessed at the Hazard Road entrance of the park. Several of last year's displays which
included "disco pond", "wall of rock stars" and "Chinatown" will be complemented with new light spectacles this year.
Event goers are advised to wear appropriate shoes or boots as the trail may be dark, muddy and uneven in places. Ballard Park is located at the intersection of Hazard & Wickham Roads in Newport. The event may be accessed through the Hazard Road entrance.
Artists, teachers and students are invited to create their own illuminated sculpture for the 8th Annual Illuminated Garden.
