March 8

  • The Mumbles
  • $8 General Admission
  • $4 with Membership or student ID
  • Free for ages 17 and under

Their name may be The Mumbles, but their music is anything but soft and indistinct. They are a New Orleans-based trio: A tiny band with a mighty sound. Using two keyboards, a drum kit, and a saxophone, they combine soul music with avant and old time jazz to create "pop songs in the key of partying down" (Time Out New York). They have built an impressive East Tennessee fan base from their previous tours through our area, playing at the WDVX "Blue Plate Special", Preservation Pub, Brackins Blues Club, and more, including their Alive After Five debut last summer. Keyboardist/singer Keith Burnstein and drummer/singer Ethan Shorter are Brooklyn transplants to New Orleans, where they have become entrenched in the vibrant musical heritage of the "Big Easy." They have performed as a duo and are the heart and soul of the band, and they have added some muscle in the form of Eric Bernhart on tenor saxophone to create a groovy gumbo of soul music and old time jazz that gets everybody up on the dance floor.

March 15

  • Bad Moon Blues Band
  • $9 General Admission
  • $5 with Membership or student ID
  • Free for ages 17 and under

Based in Nashville, the Bad Moon Blues Band is serious about their blues, and as they like to say, they "play the blues what don't get played." That is to say, they play the less often heard songs of blues legends like Muddy Waters, Albert King, and T-Bone Walker as well as the more modern tunes of artists such as Son Seals, Robben Ford, and Tony Joe White. All the Bad Moon members are veteran musicians with decades of experience. Peter Burger is a multi-award winning saxophonist and long-time member of the Stacy Mitchhart Band. Bassist and vocalist Richard Sanders is a Texas native who has played numerous genres of music, including backing up firebrand blues guitarist Scott Holt. Vic Mastrianni has played drums with B. B. King, Elvin Bishop, and J. J. Cale as well as many country and Americana artists. Memphis native Tom Whisenhunt has won numerous awards as a guitarist and also shares the lead vocals with Sanders. These All-Stars have come together under a "bad moon" to play "feel good" music guaranteed to help you forget your troubles and lighten your load!
