Animazement 2013
Animazement is about everything anime and Japan, and every year, we pack our schedule full of events dedicated to everything that makes us fans. 2013 will be no exception, and we look forward to bringing you a weekend packed full of events, guests, panels, video rooms, and so much more!
Animazement is an all-volunteer, fan-run anime convention in Raleigh, NC, celebrating popular Japanese culture in all of its forms. Start your convention early on Thursday night at Animazement's Pre-Con! This is your chance to pick up your badges early and enjoy a little taste of Animazement before the convention officially begins.
You may have just gotten settled in to your hotel room, or you may have been to every panel since noon, but be sure to join all of our guests and fellow otaku as they welcome you to Animazement. This is no typical stuffy ceremony-our guests and attendees are ready to party, and anything can (and probably will) happen! Come out and get fired up for an action-packed weekend of celebrating everything that makes us Animazement!
What better way to end your Friday or Saturday at Animazement than by getting down with your fellow otaku! Dance the night away to your favorite anime themes, J-pop, and the best in electro-house and trance! Come on stage and sing your heart out! We've got the audience and the music.. all we need is the star! Enter the Masquerade Contest and show off your costume in front of thousands of screaming fangirls and fanboys!

The history of Animazement began in 1997, when TAAS (Triangle Area Anime Society) held the first 36-Hour Anime Marathon event. TAAS, led by North Carolina State University Students, was an anime club for fans of all ages. Their weekly meetings were attended by a diverse group of fans from central North Carolina, ranging in age from elementary school students to adults. At the 36-Hour Anime Marathon, over 200 fans from all across North Carolina were able to gather for a weekend of anime-related fun. The organizers began considering holding an anime convention, and this event was viewed as a sort of test-case for what would eventually become Animazement.
The mission of Animazement is to provide an introduction to Japanese Language and Culture, through the world of Japanese Animation and Manga. For three days each spring, a diverse group of attendees, volunteers, special Japanese and American guests, panelists, and our staff come together to share in celebrating Japanese entertainment and visual culture. Our activities span the various genres of anime, manga, video games, J-pop/J-rock, martial arts, traditional arts and crafts, and more in a family-friendly, festival-like atmosphere. Sure, it's a party, but it is our sincere hope that everyone who attends Animazement will learn something and leave with a greater sense of cultural understanding and appreciation for Japanese Culture and Language.
The parent organization of Animazement, Educational Growth Across Oceans (EGAO) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
