Annual Summer Comedy Camp
Comedy has to be based on truth.
You take the truth and you put a little curlicue at the end.

For students ages 12-17
The National Comedy Theatre is gearing up for its annual Summer Comedy Camp where we give our students the opportunity to explore the worlds of improv and sketch writing. Much like NCT's professional team, our group of students will quickly form an ensemble of performers, working together to develop their skills and, ultimately, build a quality performance that friends and family will be invited to attend at our theatre in San Diego.
Our camp runs Monday through Friday, running for a total of two weeks. Students will have the option of studying improv, sketch writing, or taking both classes. In the end, our goal is to give our students the skills they need to go on creating long after our camp ends...and, of course, have a blast in the process.
Improvisation: Monday-Friday, 10AM - 12:30PM
Learn improvisation with the world famous National Comedy Theatre. Our workshops feature fundamentals of stagework and improvisational comedy, character and scene development, self-confidence, living "in the moment," and the experience of planning and putting on a full performance open to family and friends.
Sketch Comedy: Monday - Friday, 1 PM - 3:30 PM
"What is funny and why?" is where we begin in the sketch writing class. Through scene study and improvisation, our students will begin to answer that question and write/develop their own scenes focusing on structure, character, and timing. Our second week focuses on our final performance - writing, rewriting and rehearsing our scenes in preparation for our invited show, a structure very similar to professional sketch comedy shows like SNL
Tuition (for entire course)
- Improv - $350
- Sketch Comedy - $350
- Combination of both courses - $600 (save $100
