About the Township
Located about 30 miles north of downtown Houston, Texas, The Woodlands officially began in 1974. The Woodlands is a master-planned community with nearly 100,000 residents and approximately 2,000 businesses. The Woodlands is well known for its extensive parks and recreation, golf, corporate headquarters, schools, places of worship, shopping, dining, hospitality, healthcare and much more. Today, there are more than 120 parks and nearly 200 miles of hike and bike trails. For many years, various homeowner associations and special purpose districts provided services for residents and businesses. The Woodlands Township was created three years ago and today is the governmental service provider for residents and businesses, providing enhanced law enforcement services, fire protection, environmental services, parks and recreation, economic development and more.
