Basically Beethoven Festival

Since 1981, Fine Arts Chamber Players (FACP) has presented the Basically Beethoven Festival, a series of FREE recitals and classical chamber music concerts that take place every Sunday afternoon at a local Dallas Cultural Center. The concerts annually feature over fifty outstanding musicians drawn from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, The Dallas Opera Orchestra and area university faculties, playing to full-capacity audiences. The Rising Star Youth Recitals precede the feature performances and showcase young talented musicians. FACP provides a venue for these gifted young artists as they pursue careers in music to perform before a wider audience.

2012 Basically Beethoven Festival Concerts

July 1st

Rising Star Recital: Baritone Blas Canedo, chosen in 2011 for the prestigious Opera Singer Initiative in New York City, sings music of Ravel and de Falla with pianist Mark Metcalf. Feature Performance: Imperial Brass celebrates the American spirit with a medley of classical and patriotic music plus taste of jazz.

July 8th

Rising Star Recital: Adam Phan, 1st Place Winner in the Dallas Harp Society Scholarship Competition, performs music of Grandjany, Pierne and Debussy. Feature Performance: Jing Wang, Concertmaster of the Dallas Opera Orchestra, and friends from the Dallas and Fort Worth Symphonies with pianist Jonathan Tsay, play Dvorak's Quintet No. 2 for Strings and Piano.

July 15th

Rising Star Recital: Martin Godoy, Finalist in the National Flute Association's 2012 Young Artist Competition performs a preview of his competition repertoire with Gabriel Sanchez, piano. Feature Performance: Yuri Anshelevich, Associate Principal Cellist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and pianist Gabriel Sanchez perform music of Beethoven, Boccherini & Mendelssohn.

July 22nd

Rising Star Recital: Claire Luan Wells, 11 year-old Grand Prize Winner of the Collin County Concerto Competition, with pianist Christina Kim, perform Barber's Concerto for Violin. Feature Performance: Gary Levinson, Senior Principal Associate Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony, and friends present Beethoven's Septet, Op. 20 for winds and strings. Pianist Baya Kakouberi will perform selected works of Beethoven.

July 29th

Rising Star Recital: Clarinetist Steven Tsai, an award winner in the Juanita Miller Concerto Competition and the Dallas Symphonic Festival, performs music of Mozart and von Weber with pianist Julie Chung. Feature Performance: Baritone David Grogan, Assistant Professor of Voice at the University of Texas at Arlington, presents Beethoven's song cycle An die ferne Geliebte with pianist Mark Metcalf. Beethoven folksongs for voice, piano, violin and cello and a string trio will complete the All-Beethoven program.

Rising Star Recitals - The Rising Star Recitals are performed during the Basically Beethoven Festival, every Sunday in July, and begin at 2:30 pm, just prior to the main concerts at 3:00 pm. These recitals showcase young talented musicians, giving them an opportunity to perform before a wider audience. Fine Arts Chamber Players provides a venue for these gifted young artists as they pursue careers in music.
