CALA Festival
The CALA Alliance International Festival will be back this year with all new programming. Audiences can once again look forward to a cornucopia of exhibits, performances and cultural activities showcasing the work of top-notch Latino and Latin American artists.
Mission
CALA Alliance is a community-based organization dedicated to using arts and culture to educate and inspire Arizonans of all demographics about the richness of our Latino cultural heritage. Its mission is to create shared arts experiences that encourage cultural understanding between people of the Americas. Its formation recognizes the profound demographic changes that are reshaping America, and the need for the growing and impactful Latino segment of the population to be better understood and valued.
Company Overview
CALA is generating enthusiasm within the Arizona arts and cultural community. Latino artist collectives like Xico, Inc and the newly opened Latino Cultural Center (ALAC), large established arts organizations like the Phoenix Symphony and Phoenix Arts Museum, and cultural institutions like the Science Center and Desert Botanical Garden are all planning to offer their patrons Latino work during CALA as part of their regular seasons. Never before has Latino and mainstream arts groups joined together in a joint initiative to reach out and bridge the gaps created by cultural misunderstandings in our community.
CALA Alliance aspires to fully engage a wide range of our citizens in a dialogue about our cities' future through the arts. By engaging artists from Mexico, Central and South America, highlighting Latino artistic expression locally through exhibits, concerts, theater productions and significant educational outreach activities, Celebración Artística de las Américas will help heal the rift between neighbors, while creating a festival of artistic excellence that will encourage our metro region and its neighbors to the South to develop new ways to experience and share our complementary cultures.
