Drama Classes

Thank You! Your rating has been saved.

NBYT's Stage Play and Stage Performance classes are designed to combine the instruction of drama classes with the excitement of being in a show! They're ideal for younger actors, children who want their first experience onstage-or a little more experience-or even older students who want to practice their stage skills or who aren't able to audition and rehearse for NBYT's productions.

In each section, children explore acting techniques, voice, movement, and improvisation in order to develop focus and learn to work together as an ensemble. Each term, the group will rehearse a selection of pieces from works chosen especially for the children enrolled. Older and more experienced children will work on scenes of their own with a greater focus on character development. More time spent on drama games and activities will introduce younger children to performing on stage. Small group sizes will give each child quality instruction and will ensure that everyone has a featured part in the performance.

Small-scale performances, with simple costumes and props, are held at the end of the final class and are open to family and friends.

Winter/Spring Beginning Date: Saturday, January 26

About NBYT

New Britain Youth Theater was founded in 2010 to provide after-school programming to the Consolidated School District of New Britain, to produce a season of performances by and for children and young adults, and to offer drama classes and summer programs. NBYT is now a leading community and educational theater serving children and families in Greater New Britain, Greater Hartford, the Farmington Valley, and throughout Connecticut. The theater's programs include Kids on Stage productions, the NBYT Teen Company, Stage Performance classes, community outreach programs, and more. NBYT is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and young adults by encouraging creative thinking, fostering self-confidence and self-esteem, and developing general life skills through involvement in low-cost programs in the performing arts. NBYT operates programs in schools, at community spaces, and at Trinity-on-Main Performance Space in New Britain, and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
