Hot August Nights

Thank You! Your rating has been saved.

Shine your Chevy, detail your Deuce Coupe and hustle your hot rod over to the Hot August Nights for a celebration of America's love affair with cars and rock 'n' roll. The 2012 event is Aug. 7-12. This "blast from the past" allows baby boomers to relive the "happy days" and it provides an opportunity for those who didn't experience the '50s and '60s firsthand to enjoy the era.

During Hot August Nights, cars are "cherry" and cruisin' is "too cool." More than 800,000 people flock to the event where cars are the stars and rock 'n roll rules through dozens of concerts -- most of them free -- throughout the event.

There is a prom night, controlled cruises and show-n-shines, where you can watch rolling Rembrandts on display. If you are looking for parts for your car or a classic to take home there is a Swap Meet, the Big Boy's Toy Store and the Silver Auction.

The entertainment schedule for 2012 can be viewed on PDF from the link at left.

Get fast with Ride and Drives

In celebration of its 26th year, organizers of Hot August Nights are pleased to announce an addition to the event's already jam-packed slate of activities that is sure to appeal to fans ages 18 and up. Debuting this year, are the exhilarating Ride and Drives, which allow passengers to ride along with professional drivers as they race at breathtaking speeds in some of the newest and most popular vehicles on the road. The Ride and Drives take place Tuesday, Aug. 7 through Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino parking lot.

Sponsored by Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co., Ride and Drives provide passengers with the opportunity to see, first-hand, the workings of modern day hot rods that are in the forefront of the industry. Professional drivers take passengers on a "white knuckle" ride in a Ford Mustang or a Chevy Corvette on a specially designed course to showcase the vehicles' speed, agility and other features. Additionally, each Ride and Drive will be captured with a digital video camera. The video will be available for the passenger to email so they are able to watch, relive and share the experience with family and friends. The event is free and participants must be 18 years of age or older.
