LIFE: A Journey Through Time

Thank You! Your rating has been saved.

A multimedia extravaganza for the senses, LIFE: A Journey Through Time features breathtaking photographs from National Geographic photographer Frans Lanting. His six-year journey to discover new insights about life on Earth is musically choreographed with an elegant composition from Philip Glass. This whimsically lyrical interpretation of Earth's diversity is preceded by an onstage conversation about conservation and our environment.

Panelists for the discussion prior to the concert will include Dan Esty, Commissioner, Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection; Dr. Frogard Ryan, Executive Director, The Nature Conservancy in Connecticut; and Frans Lanting, Photographer, LIFE: A Journey Through Time.

As part of LIFE, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra will host an amateur nature photography contest and a student art contest. Amateur photographers from the state of Connecticut will be able to submit digital photographs that feature and celebrate Connecticut's natural beauty. Using facebook, twitter, and the HSO's Blog, "Cadenza," submissions will be adjudicated by a panel of judges representing the HSO, Greater Hartford Arts Council, and a Greater Hartford-based professional photographer. The judges' favorite photographs will be featured on the HSO's website and social media sites, and the winning photographers will receive prizes. Rules, restrictions and entry forms for the amateur photography concert will become available on the Hartford Symphony Orchestra's website starting March 1.
