Baton Rouge, LA --- Award-winning dancer and choreographer Debbie Allen returns to Baton Rouge to produce a professional dance musical for young people as part of the Arts Council's sixth annual Debbie Allen Dance Residency.

Debbie Allen has created this new program to honor the life and accomplishments of nationally-known arts professional and Arts Council CEO, Derek Gordon. The show will include some of Derek's favorite numbers from the past, as well as new numbers set to some of his favorite songs and is entitled: Derek's Song - Here's To Life.

The production features talented local dancers between the ages of 6 and 26 who have been cast and trained by Ms. Allen and master dance artists/professional dancers from the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. Ballet, Swing, Hip-Hop, Slide, Tap and Stepping are just a few of the dance styles incorporated into the show. The performances will be held March 14-17 at Baton Rouge Community College's Magnolia Performing Arts Pavilion located at 5310 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, 70806.

Debbie Allen is one of the most respected and versatile talents in the entertainment industry today. An accomplished dancer, singer, choreographer, producer and director, Ms. Allen received two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe for her role on the hit TV Series FAME, two Tony nominations for her roles in the revivals of Sweet Charity and West Side Story and received the first Lena Horne Award for career achievement. She produced the critically acclaimed film Amistad with Steven Spielberg and Colin Wilson and has choreographed the Academy Awards show for ten years, six of which were consecutive.

Ms. Allen has been commissioned by the Kennedy Center to create numerous works for young audiences. She has familial ties to the Greater Baton Rouge Area and is delighted to contribute to the growth and enjoyment of dance in our community. This year's production is sure to delight sell-out audiences once again.
