Modern Childhood explores the concept of childhood from the early 19th century to the present. The exhibit highlights toys, games and amusements from the Victorians to the Millennials. Reminisce about your well-loved toys, share your memories with your family and learn something new about old childhood favorites. Exhibit run from February 26, 2013 to January 30, 2014.

CALL FOR ARTIFACTS: Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village (BNHV) is seeking to borrow or receive as a donation toys and games for an upcoming exhibit, Modern Childhood that highlight favorite toys, games and amusements from the 19th century to the present. Objects must be received by December 28. Items accepted on loan will be returned by January 30, 2014.

Specifically, we are seeking:

  • 19th century board games: Mansion of Happiness, Game of Goose, Snakes and Ladders, Bicycle Game, Cinderella, Game of City Life, Checkered, Game of Life, Chivalry
  • 20th century board games: Flinch Card Game, Radio Game, Game of Traffic, Risk or Chutes and Ladders board games.
  • Unusual cast-iron, mechanical or tin toys, and pip squeak or bellow toys.
  • Toys made by Western New York manufacturers
  • Unique child sleds

We are also seeking:

  • Favorite and well-loved toys along with the stories of what makes the item special
  • Gender-neutral twin bed and dresser from the 1970s, in good condition
  • Kitchen Table and chairs from 1930s-1950s (This would be a donation that would be used by the public)
