NEW WINES AND LIVE MUSIC AT THE WINERY

Thank You! Your rating has been saved.

Tehuacana Creek Vineyards is a family-owned vineyard located outside Waco, Texas. It was founded in March of 1997 when we planted our first 100 vines. Since then we have added vines every year and in 2006 we opened for sales as a bonded winery.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY...

Tehuacana Creek (pronounced "To-Walk-In-A Creek") is named after the Tehuacana Indians who lived in the Waco area in the mid 1800's. The creek forms the western border of our land and runs into the Brazos River just half a mile south of us. At one time this land was part of the huge Thomas de La Vega grant, owned by a Mexican citizen who gave it up for sale to finance the release of Stephen F. Austin. By the end of the 19th century it was part of the large Harrison Cotton Plantation. General James E. Harrison had a plantation house built on what is now our land. Nothing is left today of this house called Tehuacana Retreat except pictures, but the road to the house still remains and passes just a few feet from our vines.

OUR GRAPES

Our first varietal was Norton (also known as Cynthiana). This is a red grape that produces a dry hearty wine suitable for aging. We had experience with this grape from Missouri, where we lived before, and we knew it to make an outstanding red wine. Later, we planted a white grape called Blanc du Bois and another red grape, Black Spanish, from which we have been able to make an excellent port.

WINEMAKING AT TCV

Using small-scale professional winemaking equipment, we crush, destem, and press the grapes at the winery after each harvest. The juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks and stored until the following year when the wine is ready to be bottled. Depending on the characteristics of the grapes we use a small amount of new American oak to bring out the full flavors of each wine.

FUTURE PLANS

We became a bonded winery in 2005 and opened for sale to the public in 2006. The same year we started the building of a new and larger winemaking building right next to our current tasting room. The building is now fully operational hosting both winemaking and events such as wine tasting classes and monthly wine tasting gourmet dinners. We can also host private parties and invite you to contact us if you are interested. Future plans include expansion of our vineyards and building a larger wine tasting room and an event room for weddings and large parties.
