PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest
The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest is a yearly competition in which children in grades K-5 in Southern Nevada may celebrate the power of creating stories and illustrations by submitting their own original work.
Illustrations are required, and a word count limit (by grade level) is strictly enforced. Entries in braille and languages other than English are accepted, but must be accompanied by an English translation.
Vegas PBS is proud to offer the local competition to all students in Kindergarten through 5th grade; however, only first place winners from Kindergarten through 3rd grades will be forwarded for judging in a national competition.
This year, Vegas PBS is partnering with the Southern Nevada Writing Project to award each first place winner free tuition in the organization's annual summer writing camp.
Ready To Learn (RTL) is a PBS project that helps children ages 0-8 gain the skills - especially literacy - which they need to be successful in school and life. Vegas PBS RTL focuses approximately 90% of its outreach efforts on Clark County School District (CCSD) Title I schools. The project employs four tools in executing its mission:
PBS television broadcast of quality children's shows and messages
Companion web sites extending the broadcasts' instructional messages
RTL training workshops demonstrating how caregivers can use home media to help children learn outside the school day
Distribution of free books, in English and Spanish, to disadvantaged/low income families throughout Southern Nevada to build at-home libraries
