Penn Relays Carnival

Thank You! Your rating has been saved.

This year there will be more than 22,000 entries, about half of whom will be high schoolers, and the three-day attendance is likely to top 110,000 for the third year in a row. Saturday attendance has averaged 48,000 for the last six years, and makes the meet the best attended track event in the United States each year, and one of the best attended in the world.

An endowment of the Relays Directorship in 2006 created the Frank Dolson Director of Penn Relays, with Johnson as the first holder of the chair.

Through 116 editions of the meet, more athletes have run at the Penn Relays than at any single meet in the world. More spectators have watched the meet than any in the world except the Olympics and World Championships. And the Penn Relay Carnival remains the same whirlwind of activity that has always excited fans young and old.

As the first and oldest of relay meets, the Penn Relays has always tried to stay at the forefront of advances in the sport.

This year's effort is no different. While we run an average of one race every five minutes over our 33 hours of competition, our website will try to keep pace with up-to-the-minute results, features, video and blogs. In the weeks leading up to the Relays, we'll have previews and podcasts, news and updates, all with the idea of presenting all the important stuff as quickly as we can get it to you.

Our new on-line store will feature apparel, programs and merchandise, along with special auctions of Relays memorabilia. Ticket purchases may also be made on line.

For ease and convenience, sign up for your Penn Relays Passport, which offers easy access to the store and ticket window, and also gives you a subscription to the weekly Penn Relays e-newsletter. People who sign up in the first two weeks will be offered the opportunity of purchasing tickets in our special ticket pre-sale, before the general public sale.

On behalf of the Penn Relays family, welcome to ThePennRelays.com, rebooted, refreshed and ready for action!

The Penn Relays are conducted by the University of Pennsylvania and contested at Franklin Field,

located at the corner of 33rd and South Streets
