Roast~n~Boast BBQ Cooking Competition
Officially Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and proclaimed by the Governor of Mississippi to be a
MISSISSIPPI STATE CHAMPIONSHIP BARBEQUE EVENT!
Heat, humidity, ceiling fans in constant rotation, ice melting in large glasses of sweet tea. Lightning bugs dance to the music down by the river. Vegetable gardens produce buckets of tomatoes, squash, corn, greens, beans and peas. Honeysuckle lingers in the air. Random rain showers giving everything a brief sigh of cooling relief. All what summer brings to North East Mississippi. August lingers on the edge of these magical summers, saying farewell to lazy days and family vacations to the coast, as it taunts children and entices parents with the beginning of a new school year.
With August also comes great memories of good times at the Columbus-Lowndes Fairgrounds; kids laughing and cheering as they bounce in inflatable jumpers and win at one of the many games;
vendors calling at you from their shaded canopies, enticing you to buy their trinkets or goods; moving and swaying to the melodies of the live bands; great friends getting together as a team to prove they have the best BBQ sauce, dry rub and cooking skills. The aromas of pork being roasted, smoked, grilled and smothered in sauce mingle with expressions of delight as the judges savor each bite. The pride beaming from the faces of those who won Grand Champion of the Roast ~N~ Boast Annual Cooking Competition.
On AUGUST 23-24, the tea may be sweet, but the fun, food, and prizes are even sweeter.
