Run Away To The Bay
Starting in Oshkosh and ending in Green Bay, this 55-mile relay event offers a day filled with friends, fun, and good running.
Run Away to the Bay is a 12-leg relay. Teams provide their own support vehicle and can divide the race legs however they want as long as the entire distance is covered by the team. Teams are expected to exchange runners at each of the 11 designated exchange zones on the course.
Starting on the shores of Lake Winnebago in Menomonee Park in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, teams will start in waves beginning at 7 a.m. Start times will be determined by anticipated team pace. After the start, runners will then head north along the lake towards the Fox Cities before crossing the countryside of Calumet County and finally entering the Fox River Trail just north of Forest Junction. Runners will stay on the trail until reaching the waterfront finish line on The City Deck, in Downtown Green Bay.
Ross McDowell, owner of Run Away Shoes, is the event's founder. He states, "We were inspired to begin this event in the Fox Valley after several years of sporting our own team at the Fall 50 relay in Door County, Wisconsin. There was nothing like it locally in the spring and we felt it would be a good way to get runners excited again after the winter."
At our inaugural event in 2012, we welcomed over 380 participants and volunteers to our race and response from participants since last year has been overwhelmingly positive. This adventurous team endeavor has been an exciting change for average and competitive runners alike in Eastern Wisconsin.
This is sure to become the staple spring event in the runners' race schedule. We invite you to join us in our second year of Run Away To The Bay!
