Spring For Science - Chico Science Fair 2013
Mission Statement
The Chico Science Fair Foundation's mission is to support and provide guidance to the Chico Science Fair and ensure the continued availability and vitality of this community-wide celebration of scientific inquiry for the student citizens of Chico, California.
Vision
The foundation board, working committees, teachers, and volunteers of the Chico Science Fair are committed to helping our nation stay at the forefront of scientific inquiry and innovation through local involvement. As science and technology become ever more important to our future, the challenge of improving science and technology education in our schools continues to motivate the Chico Science Fair Foundation. For over 20 years the fair has been encouraging students - our future scientists and engineers - to learn about science and the scientific method, to apply that knowledge, and to share their results.
Goals
Our goal is to motivate K-12 students to pursue scientific activities by:
- Providing workshops on academic and communication skills, such as conducting independent scientific investigations, analyzing results, writing research papers, and preparing organized displays.
- Providing materials on the scientific method for students, parents, and teachers.
- Providing mentoring for intellectual rigor, creativity, and independence in scientific thinking.
- Providing an annual forum for exhibiting student research projects that demonstrate scientific understanding, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Recognizing the efforts of students by honoring the public display of their work, and rewarding excellence in the application of the scientific method.
