Downtown Fergus Falls has a remarkable number of buildings that retain their historic character, a fact that makes the city one of the most attractive communities in Minnesota. Italianate, Medieval Revival, Victorian Eastlake and Renaissance Revival are among the architectural styles represented within a four-block area. During the tour people will discover the history of the community and see what Fergus Falls once looked like and how the streetscape has changed.

Myths & Legends: A Downtown Mystery Tour of Fergus Falls

Shady characters. Illegal clubs. Wanton women. Shoot outs on main street. A Hollywood thriller or just another evening in Fergus Falls, Minnesota? If you're thinking movie plot - forget about it. Tour begins at the River Inn, 133 S. Mill Street, Fergus Falls.

This twilight walk through the historic downtown explores some of the community's more colorful characters and notorious events.

The tour will examine stories and visit sites such as the painting of a nude woman discovered between walls at the old city hall. Find out why the "Municipal Nude" caused such an uproar in town. During the evening the location of an infamous liquor operation and its well known owner will be revealed as well as the stories behind the county's two "official" hangings.

Utilizing first person interpretations, the Fergus Falls Mystery Tour is not for young children. It is a factually based tour that brings to light events and people from the community's colorful past.

Historic Downtown Pelican Rapids

Tour begins at the restored Historic City Hall where your tour guide will take you on a tour that will examine numerous downtown buildings made from Pelican Rapids brick. While the tour will look at architectural details, it will also emphasize community history based on the many interviews conducted by Marguerite Andrews with the town's "old timers" throughout the years. Their stories bring life and continuity to the buildings and landscape seen on the tour.

The history of Perham and its buildings are interwoven. Each has a story to tell about people and events that define the town's legacy. A walk through the well preserved downtown reveals a series of architectural treasures that mirror the city's history.

This tour includes these and many more history sound bites: When Dr. Harris open a dental office on the second floor of the Bauck Block in downtown Perham, his advertising motto was "a little pain to save a big pain." Prohibition did not prevent Art Sacket from selling liquor from his pool hall known as "The Spot." Even when Sacket was fined by Sheriff J.C. Henkes, he would pay his fine in pennies and nickels just to annoy the county attorney.

Your tour guide will take you on a tour that will examine numerous downtown buildings in Battle Lake. While the tour will look at architectural details, it will also emphasize community history. Stories will bring to life the history of a communities reach that went well beyond this small towns boarders.

This event is organized by the Otter Tail County Historical Society. Cost is $5.00 per person. Tour begins at 6:30 p.m. Meet at the Pamida parking lot.
