Valentine's Day Dinner Event
Cornerstone Academy is presenting our 2nd annual Valentine's Day Dinner Event on February 14, 2013. This is the perfect Valentine's Day date for those who love the arts! The evening includes a four-course meal, ballet performances featuring Rebekah von Rathonyi & Joshua Gullett, opera performances featuring Harold Meers & Saundra DeAthos, champagne, and dancing. Rebekah is an alumni of the Draper Center for Dance Education and the Rock School for Dance Education.
While training as a young dancer, Ms. Von Rathonyi was fortunate to receive scholarships to National Ballet School in Toronto Canada, Pittsburg Ballet School, Boston Ballet School and The Harid Conservatory. At fourteen years of age, she joined Compania Nacional de Danza in Mexico City as a Corps de ballet member under the direction of Fernando Alonzo. In 1994, she was accepted into the year-round apprentice/trainee program at The Rock School of the Pennsylvania Ballet. She enjoyed her time training with the company and performed in four of the five Pennsylvania ballet's company productions which included many Balanchine ballets. Upon returning to New York, Ms. Von Rathonyi joined Rochester City Ballet as a principal dancer under her mentors Timothy Draper and Sally Steppnes. She performed numerous principal roles in "Nutcracker," "Don Quixote," "Firebird," and "Gaite Parisian" It was at this time that Artistic Director, Timothy Draper suggested she begin teaching ballet for him in his school.
Ms. Von Rathonyi served as Artistic Director to the Flower City Ballet for 2 years. During this time, she raised student enrollment, began an inner city scholarship program for underprivileged children and launched a new 4 week summer intensive program. As the school and company flourished, she was able to produce a Full length Nutcracker and Mixed Spring production with sold out audiences.
She joined Peoria Ballet in 2002, where she performed principal roles in "Nutcracker," "Firebird," "Giselle," "Dracula," "Follow Our Footsteps," "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Cinderella," and "Wings". Ms. Von Rathonyi raised the caliber of the Academy by instituting a pre-professional training program for the aspiring dancer. She is a 2006 recipient of Peoria's 40 Leaders Under 40 award. In 2006, she attended the prestigious teacher training program at Royal Winnipeg Ballet in Canada. During this time Ms. von Rathonyi served as Artistic Coordinator and Faculty Member to The Rock School for Dance Education. She has guest taught, danced and choreographed throughout the United States including Pennsylvania, New York and Chicago, IL.
