ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

The World Golf Championships Cadillac Championship is one of four World Golf Championships sanctioned and organized by the operational committee of the International Federation of PGA Tours, which includes the Asian Tour, European Tour, Japan Golf Tour, PGA TOUR, PGA Tour of Australasia and Southern Africa Tour. The other World Golf Championships include the Accenture Match Play Championship, Bridgestone Invitational and HSBC Champions.

TPC Blue Monster at Doral has been a storied venue on the PGA TOUR for many years. Its newly resurfaced greens will provide a great test of golf for the best players in the world.

YOUTH POLICY

• Children 18 and younger will be admitted FREE of charge when accompanied by a ticketed adult (one child per person).

Will Call will be located at the main entrance to the Cadillac Championship on Doral Blvd/36th St, and can be accessed via the shuttles from General Parking or by walking. Please note that there is no parking available at will call.

History: World Golf Championships

In 2008, the World Golf Championships celebrated 10 years of bringing the world of golf together. Since 1999, players from around the globe have competed against one another in varied formats, representing their respective countries in memorable and exciting competition. Over the past decade, World Golf Championships have been contested on five continents and in 10 countries.

Fields for the World Golf Championships are filled primarily through the Official World Golf Ranking, which is endorsed by all the sport's major professional organizations and governing bodies, and individual Tours' Official Money Lists/Orders of Merit.

World Golf Championships - Historical Timeline

• September 1996
  Tours Join Forces: At the 1996 Presidents Cup, golf's five world governing bodies -- the European Tour, Japan Golf Tour Organization, PGA TOUR, PGA Tour of Australasia and Sunshine Tour -- formed the International Federation of PGA Tours and reached agreement on several key elements of professional golf designed to create new international events, beginning in 1999. The Asian Tour joined the organization as a full fledged member in November 1999.
• October 1997
  NEW SERIES ANNOUNCED: The World Golf Championships were announced to enhance the competitive structure of professional golf worldwide while preserving the traditions and strengths of the individual Tours and their events.
• February 1999
  INAUGURAL EVENT: Jeff Maggert beat Andrew Magee 1-up in 38 holes at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., to capture the Accenture Match Play Championship, the inaugural World Golf Championships event.
• November 1999
  SPANISH WOODS: Tiger Woods defeated Miguel Angel Jimenez in a playoff to capture the first CA Championship at Valderrama in Andalucia, Spain.
• August 2000
  LIGHT THE WAY: Illuminated by flashbulbs and cigarette lighters, Tiger Woods completed Firestone Country Club's 18th hole at dusk. His final shot in the dark finished 2 feet from the hole and he tapped in for birdie and an 11-stroke victory at the Bridgestone Invitational.
• January 2001
  STRICKER STRIKES: Steve Stricker defeated Pierre Fulke in the championship match of the Accenture Match Play Championship in Australia. Stricker would go on to win consecutive PGA TOUR Comeback Player of the Year awards in 2006 and 2007 and placed second in the inaugural FedExCup competition in 2007.
• August 2001
  LONG PLAYOFF: Tiger Woods birdied the seventh playoff hole to beat Jim Furyk at the Bridgestone Invitational. Furyk extended the playoff on the first extra hole when he holed a bunker shot for par.
• November 2001
  SOUTH AFRICAN DUO: South Africa's Ernie Els and Retief Goosen beat three other teams in a playoff to capture the World Cup in Japan. South Africa was the only country to win two World Cup titles during the event's time as a World Golf Championships tournament from 2000-2006. (Trevor Immelman and Rory Sabbatini won in 2003.)
• March 2003
  TIGER SWEEP: Tiger Woods defeated David Toms in the Accenture Match Play Championship final to complete a career sweep of all four World Golf Championships titles.
• August 2003
  IRISH DOUBLE: Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke captures the Bridgestone Invitational, joining Tiger Woods as the only players to win multiple individual World Golf Championships titles (he won the Accenture Match Play Championship in 2000).
• October 2004
  ELS AGAIN: Ernie Els withstood a charge by Thomas Bjorn to capture the CA Championship in Ireland. The victory, Els' first individual World Golf Championships title, is added to Els' 2001 World Cup team victory.
• March 2007
  SIX WINS: Tiger Woods won a sixth CA Championships at Doral, claiming second on the all-time PGA TOUR list for most victories in one event, behind only Sam Snead's eight victories in Greensboro, NC.
• August 2007
  ANOTHER SIX: Tiger Woods wins a sixth Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club. He joined Alex Ross (Pinehurst No. 2/North & South Open), Jack Nicklaus (Augusta National GC/Masters Tournament) and Sam Snead (Miami Springs G&CC/Miami Open) as the only players to win a single event six times on the same course.
• February 2008
  HAPPY ANNIVERSARY: The World Golf Championships entered the 10th year of global competition. The 2008 Accenture Match Play Championship marked Stuart Appleby's 27th consecutive World Golf Championships start, making him the only player to qualify for and play in every individually contested World Golf Championships event since 1999. He also participated in the 2003 World Cup.
